\nthey are very simple organisms, without a nucleus even.
\nAlso because prokaryotes were able to live in the environment that earth was. Earth was newly formed, and oxygen was not around when prokaryotes were formed.
\nThe fact that they were able to live anaerobically, without oxygen, would show why prokaryotes were the first life forms.
